Electric Scooter City started in the summer of 2003, when a neighbor leant me (Rich Sathoff,
owner) an electric scooter when he went to Europe. I had so much fun
using it to go to the grocery store, dinner, happy hour, and just
riding it, that I bought a Currie Phat Flyer of my own. When I needed
some repairs done, there was no-one available locally to do so and
sending a scooter back through the mail was impractical.
So
thanks to Blue Moon Ale and an idea of Andy Nabors, we came up with the
idea to start a store for the sale and service of electric scooters
here in Raleigh. The idea of using an electric vehicle as a short
commute replacement, leisure drive alternative, college campus
transportation, and just for fun was appealing to us.
The following friends have been instrumental in the development of Electric Scooter City and are a part of whatever it becomes.

Paul Friedrich,
who developed all the artwork for the business cards, stationery,
flyer, t-shirts, signs, and website. Paul also created Max, the scooter
gerbil.
Joyce Angel,
who was willing to design the interior space, help with the web site,
help with the signs, and help with the retail business in general, and
all for the price of one scooter (I did give her a high end one).
Andy and Alison Nabors, for not only the original idea, but also help with the web site and general support and being Assistant Manager.
Kevin Bowden for general support and being the original scooter repair department.
Georgia Sathoff
(my daughter), for helping with all the artistic decisions and being my
personal assistant for $2.00/hour and not being old enough to know
about minimum wage.
